Tag Archive: Loudwire

Hey! Been working on this post all evening/night, and finally done, I don’t want to wait any longer to publish it. Inspired by Loudwire’s list of 10 unforgettable crowd participation moments (which you can find here), I wanted to make a list myself. It contains my favorites, including many of the suggestions made in the comment section on YouTube, which, in my opinion, were far better than many of the one’s on Loudwire’s list.
This is in no particular order, so don’t come complaining about that to me. I’m doing it this way because many of them are equally great in different ways, with their own qualities and moods which they evoke.

Avenged Sevenfold – Unholy Confessions (Live in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA, 2014)

Foo Fighters – My Hero (Live in Bogotá, Colombia, 2015)

Linkin Park – In The End (Live at Rock Am Ring in Mendig, Germany, 2004)

Metallica – Creeping Death (Live in Moscow, Russia, 1991)

Slash, Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators – Sweet Child O’ Mine (Live in Mumbai, India, 2015)

Disturbed  – Down With The Sickness (Live at Rock Am Ring in Mendig, Germany, 2008)

Evanescence  – My Immortal (Live in Paris, France, 2004)

Rammstein – Du Hast (Live at Download Festival, Leicestershire, England, 2013)

AC/DC – Thunderstruck (Live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2011)

Machine Head – Darkness Within (Live in London, England, 2014)

So, here you have it. I personally think these are just as good or even better than the list Loudwire made, even though several of the ones on Loudwire’s list were great (I couldn’t just copy it either, could I?). I could go on and on about things you should notice, like the band’s reaction to the fans, or the sheer loudness and harmony of the crowd. This kind of interaction between artists and fans is an extraordinary phenomenon.
I want to know what are your contribution(s) to the list, what do you think I should check out? Are there even better versions of the artists and songs I’ve chosen? Please leave a comment below.

Disturbed – Fire It Up

Hi, there! Trying to blog a little more now, hoping that if I put in a little work here, I might be motivated to work on my bachelor’s degree. I find it funny how I always feel like blogging or doing something ELSE creative other than the thing I really need to do, like reading/preparing for an exam, writing a paper, or some other more important stuff (especially when I have to write something else!). However, today’s song is Fire It Up by Disturbed, off their newest album, Immortalized (2015). Here are the lyrics. Have a good time listening!

Yes, this song is about smoking weed. No doubt about it. If you didn’t recognize the sounds in the start of the song (sound of a bong, if you didn’t know), you most certainly will understand because of all the euphemisms and metaphors Draiman is using to get the message across. He has even stated himself in an interview (with Loudwire, which you can find here) that it is exactly what the song is about – that he find inspiration to write music while under the influence. It really comes across in the first verse also: “When I need to spark a bit of inspiration / And the melody feels like it’s trapped inside / All I need is a bit of illumination / So the rhythm can no longer run and hide”. The song itself is great. I really like Disturbed. Love the guitar riffs (so many great guitar riffs, oh my God), and the drums and bass are wonderful too. Don’t especially like the topic, but the song is great, and I think it’s working for them, because their music is excellent, this song is no exception. I think the use of metaphors in the song is good, especially “leaves of the devil” I really liked. This is a great song to listen to before you go out, even if you don’t smoke weed, because it is energetic and has great rhythm (or maybe work out to?).

“Fire it up
Cause when I fire it up, I feel like serenity
I feel like serenity, is mine”
(Fire It Up – Disturbed)

How I discover music

This is just a short little post about how I find my way thought the musical jungle that exists on the Internet. Maybe I can inspire you to go out there and look for “new” music, and maybe you will find your new favorite band or artist!
Mostly, when I don’t want to use a lot of time searching the web, I simply use the Discover Weekly function on Spotify, which gives you recommendations based on what you listen to. This works like a charm for me because I listen mostly to one type of music. Hard and Heavy. Every now and then, I find new music in metal magazine votings, like Loudwire’s March Metal Madness (which happens to be going on right now, and you can vote in the semifinal here), or Loudwire’s Cage Matches (yes, I like Loudwire, any other recommendations/suggestions?).

I might also try some of the recommendations from YouTube (even though their recommendations function might be a bit flawed).
Sometimes I take the time to listen to top 5 songs from related artists (on Spotify) of bands or artists that I like particularly well, or top lists of metal or rock bands produced by rock and metal magazines online.
Also, I can use the radio-function on Spotify to find both “old” (read: music that I already listen to) and new music that I like.
(Spotify is just a great music tool for me, really, I love it. Not to advertise, but I do. I used to have to buy whole albums or mixed albums to get some of the songs I liked, or even download music online, but now I don’t need to. I can buy an album if I really like the artist, to support them, but mostly I just pay for Spotify Premium and get ALL the music I want – almost – all the time. Some live stuff and some songs or albums are not available on Spotify, unfortunately, but that’s what YouTube is for, isn’t it? Whatever, enormously long rant).

Maybe you got some tips on how to search for new music. Maybe there are some things I might learn from you? Do you have any advice on how to easily find great music?

Let the beast inside now be woken”
(Immortalized – Disturbed)
