Hey! It’s been a month since I last posted. I’ve thought a lot about writing something of finishing something I’ve already started, but I never got around to it. Now, I have a new idea! I “waste” a lot of time on a meme website called 9GAG. Right now, someone’s started a trend of making a list of “need to know” songs and putting their list on 9GAG. I thought I should hop on the train and make such a list of my own. The first one that started this trend (that I noticed, at least), had a rule not to include more than one song per artist/band, and so I wanted to do the same, but realized that it was too difficult for some bands, so I only tried to not include too many. I will just dive right into it, with no arrangement to the order in which I list the songs I feel you need to know. (of course this will be mainly rock/metal, since that’s my forte, but I might include some other songs as well, if I feel like you really need to know/listen to them).
I’ve made the list in Spotify, so you can go in and have a listen right away. Might get back to this post later and make a YouTube-playlist of it as well, but for now Spotify will have to do.

  • Disturbed – The Sound Of Silence / Down With The Sickness
  • Evanescence – Bring Me To Life / My Immortal

There’s just a handful of these songs that I don’t know every single word to, but they still evoke something in me that makes me think everyone should hear them. These songs are iconic to me, representing the band, the genre and the time period they were produced in perfectly. A few of these are covers, but I included them because they are so good that I feel they both do justice to the original artists and the songs, in addition to the covers being iconic themselves.

Links to the two lists that I found already, there are some very good songs in there, and some I have yet to check out.

Am I missing something obvious to you? Would you perhaps replace the song I’ve chosen by a(n) artist/band? What would be your most iconic/”need to know”-songs? Please let me know in the comment section.

“So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end
We hear the call to
To carry on
We’ll carry on”
(Welcome To The Black Parade – My Chemical Romance)

“I raise my flag and dye my clothes
It’s a revolution, I suppose
We’re painted red to fit right in”
(Radioactive – Imagine Dragons)

Hey! Been working on this post all evening/night, and finally done, I don’t want to wait any longer to publish it. Inspired by Loudwire’s list of 10 unforgettable crowd participation moments (which you can find here), I wanted to make a list myself. It contains my favorites, including many of the suggestions made in the comment section on YouTube, which, in my opinion, were far better than many of the one’s on Loudwire’s list.
This is in no particular order, so don’t come complaining about that to me. I’m doing it this way because many of them are equally great in different ways, with their own qualities and moods which they evoke.

Avenged Sevenfold – Unholy Confessions (Live in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA, 2014)

Foo Fighters – My Hero (Live in Bogotá, Colombia, 2015)

Linkin Park – In The End (Live at Rock Am Ring in Mendig, Germany, 2004)

Metallica – Creeping Death (Live in Moscow, Russia, 1991)

Slash, Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators – Sweet Child O’ Mine (Live in Mumbai, India, 2015)

Disturbed  – Down With The Sickness (Live at Rock Am Ring in Mendig, Germany, 2008)

Evanescence  – My Immortal (Live in Paris, France, 2004)

Rammstein – Du Hast (Live at Download Festival, Leicestershire, England, 2013)

AC/DC – Thunderstruck (Live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2011)

Machine Head – Darkness Within (Live in London, England, 2014)

So, here you have it. I personally think these are just as good or even better than the list Loudwire made, even though several of the ones on Loudwire’s list were great (I couldn’t just copy it either, could I?). I could go on and on about things you should notice, like the band’s reaction to the fans, or the sheer loudness and harmony of the crowd. This kind of interaction between artists and fans is an extraordinary phenomenon.
I want to know what are your contribution(s) to the list, what do you think I should check out? Are there even better versions of the artists and songs I’ve chosen? Please leave a comment below.

“Music, my savior, save me”
(Darkness Within – Machine Head)

A lot has happened lately. Sad, tragic events driven by hate, evil, and even carelessness. The mass-shooting in Orlando, among other things. The revealing of decades of sexual assault among people in a community in my home county, is another. On top of that, several accidental deaths of people, gone too soon. Actually, the last year has been just all messed up. I don’t have any words to describe the feeling I have, really. Many of my favorite artists have made some great music addressing hate, disaster, and death, and so, I have made a playlist of songs that deal with these topics, that maybe can put words and sound to these feelings. You can subscribe to my Spotify list or go check it out on YouTube. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Take care of each other.

  • Disturbed – Who Taught You How To Hate
  • Evanescence – My Heart Is Broken
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Tonight The World Dies
  • Machine Head – Damage Inside
  • Five Finger Death Punch – Coming Down
  • Alter Bridge – Blackbird
  • Amy Lee feat. Dave Eggar – Lockdown
  • Korn – Thoughtless
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Almost Easy
  • Evanescence – Together Again
  • Lady Gaga – Til It Happens To You
  • Seether feat. Amy Lee – Broken
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Save Me
  • Machine Head – Who We Are
  • Slipknot – Dead Memories
  • Evanescence – Oceans
  • We Are The Fallen – Don’t Leave Me Behind
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Seize The Day
  • Linkin Park – No More Sorrow

  • Machine Head – Is There Anybody Out There?

“Tell me now, who taught you how to hate?
Cause it isn’t in your blood, not a part of what you’re made”
(Who Taught You How To Hate – Disturbed)

“Is there anybody out there?
Is anybody listening to me?
Is anybody else scared?”
(Is There Anybody Out There? – Machine Head)

Blowing off steam

Hi there! I want to say first and foremost that I really appreciate my readers, and I hope I make it worth coming back to this site, because all of you make it worthwhile for me to write.

However, I write this blog mainly to share great music and to express myself in the way I know how – through music (which I can’t make myself). Today I want to blow off some steam, and yesterday I made myself a new Spotify-list that I decided right now that I want to share, because I’ve been pretty much happily head banging all day, and this list is what keeps me sane (in addition to my boyfriend) whilst writing on my Bachelor’s thesis. Here’s the link to the list on my Spotify-channel, and below is the actual list, in case you don’t have Spotify and want to make it yourself (in alphabetical order after artist and album):

  • Slipknot – Eyeless

This list is 60 songs (at the current time, at least!), and by Spotify’s calculations, 4 hours and 40 minutes of heaviness. No, I didn’t include Evanescence in this one, I thought some of my lists might repeat themselves if I were to include them in all of them. This one I decided to call “Heavy Shit”, and might be added to over time, and some songs might even be removed as well, so keep checking in. (I might forget to add to this “physical” list, but I will try to remember). This might be somewhat like my anger nurturing list, but mostly I added these songs for the great head banging-factor and overall heaviness (okay, I might be a bit angry and frustrated over my paper, and that’s why I need these songs, but they are awesome to listen to anyway). Would love for you to come with heavy suggestions too, if you think some songs are missing; I might even add them.

“Let the right one in
Ya gotta go with the devil you know”
(The Devil You Know – Anthrax)

“One
Nothing wrong with me
Two
Nothing wrong with me
Three
Nothing wrong with me
Four
Nothing wrong with me”
(Bodies – Drowning Pool)

“I find the answers aren’t so clear
Wish I could find a way to disappear
All these thoughts they make no sense
I find bliss in ignorance
Nothing seems to go away
Over and over again”
[…]
“I need a little room to breathe
Cause I’m one step closer to the edge
And I’m about to break”
(One Step Closer – Linkin Park)

Hey there! I’ve noticed that I’m going slow in the blog world, and decided I should speed up a bit. But not that fast, because today I’m doing a post on the Linkin Park song Shadow Of The Day off the album Minutes To Midnight (2007). Here are the lyrics.

Music video:

Lyric video without all the disturbing sound effects from the music video:

I like the cleanness of Chester’s voice in this one. The song starts off very slow and nice with a few deep tones, the keyboard and vocals, and escalates nicely towards the refrain, and more toward the second refrain, without taking off completely before the guitar solo. The guitar actually doesn’t come in before after the second refrain, and you can hear a sample of a string ensemble that kicks in before the second verse. There are a lot of small elements in this song to complete it in the way it turned out. Even though the lyrics may seem a little blue, the song itself sound more of a cheerful tune as we reach the end of it, but if we look at the music video, the song changes it’s entire meaning. At first listen it seems so simple, but you notice more and more about it every time. It’s very well executed, even the music video is very well thought through. So beautiful.

“Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple
Sometimes good bye’s the only way”
(Shadow Of The Day – Linkin Park)

Anger Nurturing – playlist

Hey! Thought I might post a playlist, since it’s been so long since last time I did that.
Today I’ve decided to put together something to nurture the anger in you all, since it’s growing so well in me! -haha.
I chose some songs with aggressive playing and lyrics, so I hope you enjoy this little treat.

Hope you liked it!

I seriously want to quote all songs, but I’m limiting myself to the first three…

“All of  my hate cannot be bound, I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming”
(Thoughtless – Korn)

“Don’t turn your back on me, I won’t be ignored”
(Faint – Linkin Park)

“I’m not your friend, I won’t soothe your soul, and in the end you’re all dead to me”
(Desecrate Through Reverence – Avenged Sevenfold)

Linkin Park – Faint

Hey there! This time I’m doing a review on the song Faint by Linkin Park. The song was published on their album called Meteora (2003). Here are the lyrics, and below is the music video:

I love the combination of rap and rock in the songs of Linkin Park, this song is no exception. Rapping the verses, rocking hard in the refrain, mixing the best of two worlds. The lyrics are brilliant, and with the screaming, they become more aggressive and awesome. It’s like I could quote the whole song, I think it’s that awesome.

“It’s like no matter what I do I can’t convince you for once just to hear me out
So I let go, watching you turn your back like you always do
Face away and pretend that I’m not, but I’ll be here, ’cause you’re all that I got”
(Faint – Linkin Park)

Linkin Park – In The End

Today’s post is going to be about the song In The End by Linkin Park. The song was published on the album Hybrid Theory in 2000. It was the fourth single off the album. The lyrics are in the link here.

This song is, like many Linkin Park songs, a mix of rock and rap, which I quite like. Sort of a smart way to carefully try to convert rap-lovers to rock/metal lovers. I like the soft piano intro with a simple melody, which you also can hear in the background throughout the song if you listen closely. This melody is also heard in the refrain and the bridge on the guitars. There is also some programming to make it even cooler. This song got kind of a little bit of everything, with Chester Bennington’s voice sometimes sounding like one off a boy-band, and other times sounding almost as the roughest rocker. Pretty awesome, if you ask me.

“I had to fall, to lose it all, but in the end it doesn’t even matter”
(In The End – Linkin Park)
