Hey! It’s been a month since I last posted. I’ve thought a lot about writing something of finishing something I’ve already started, but I never got around to it. Now, I have a new idea! I “waste” a lot of time on a meme website called 9GAG. Right now, someone’s started a trend of making a list of “need to know” songs and putting their list on 9GAG. I thought I should hop on the train and make such a list of my own. The first one that started this trend (that I noticed, at least), had a rule not to include more than one song per artist/band, and so I wanted to do the same, but realized that it was too difficult for some bands, so I only tried to not include too many. I will just dive right into it, with no arrangement to the order in which I list the songs I feel you need to know. (of course this will be mainly rock/metal, since that’s my forte, but I might include some other songs as well, if I feel like you really need to know/listen to them).
I’ve made the list in Spotify, so you can go in and have a listen right away. Might get back to this post later and make a YouTube-playlist of it as well, but for now Spotify will have to do.

  • Disturbed – The Sound Of Silence / Down With The Sickness
  • Evanescence – Bring Me To Life / My Immortal

  • Axel Rudi Pell – Glory Night
  • In Flames – Alias
  • My Chemical Romance – The Black Parade
  • Green Day – 21 Guns
  • Elton John – Candle In The Wind

There’s just a handful of these songs that I don’t know every single word to, but they still evoke something in me that makes me think everyone should hear them. These songs are iconic to me, representing the band, the genre and the time period they were produced in perfectly. A few of these are covers, but I included them because they are so good that I feel they both do justice to the original artists and the songs, in addition to the covers being iconic themselves.

Links to the two lists that I found already, there are some very good songs in there, and some I have yet to check out.

Am I missing something obvious to you? Would you perhaps replace the song I’ve chosen by a(n) artist/band? What would be your most iconic/”need to know”-songs? Please let me know in the comment section.

“So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end
We hear the call to
To carry on
We’ll carry on”
(Welcome To The Black Parade – My Chemical Romance)

“I raise my flag and dye my clothes
It’s a revolution, I suppose
We’re painted red to fit right in”
(Radioactive – Imagine Dragons)

What are your favorite songs to listen to on Halloween? Hit me with your best, scariest, most awesome songs.

“I’m the spider crawling down your spine,
Underneath your skin.
I will gently violate your mind,
Before I tuck you in.”
(Mz. Hyde – Halestorm)

“I am hell to thee
Down here all shall suffer with me
Die purified
Rise the ashes to the sky”
(I Am Hell (Sonata in C#) – Machine Head)

Hello there! This time I’m doing a review of the song Mirror Mirror by Helloween. The song was published on the album The Dark Ride in 2000. Here are the lyrics. Enjoy!

I just love the intro, it’s so awesome! At the time, and still vocalist Andi Deris preforms the vocals downright beautifully. The lyrics are genius. “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the master of them all?“. Of course I adore the guitar riffs, and the guitar solo is perfect. This song is just dark and beautiful.

“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the sickest one of all?”
(Mirror Mirror – Helloween)

Happy Halloween!

Hi there!
Well, it’s Halloween today, and I thought that since it’s a special day, and I’ve always liked Halloween, that I would blog twice today!
Have already posted a review on the song “Someone Like You” by Adele, but I thought, “It’s Halloween, and that song doesn’t fit the occasion very much”, so I’m making a playlist, made of songs that I think fits for Halloween:

Evanescence – Haunted

Helloween – Mr. Torture

Evanescence – Sweet Sacrifice

Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare

We Are The Fallen – St. John

Linkin Park – Papercut

Evanescence – Whisper

Paramore – Monster

Three Days Grace – Scared

Avenged Sevenfold – A Little Piece Of Heaven

Evanescence – Your Star

Three Days Grace – Animal I Have Become

Avenged Sevenfold – Welcome To The Family

Evanescence – Sick

We Are The Fallen – Trough Hell

This list is made with the criterias:

  • Sound great
  • Have brilliant lyrics
  • Rock

Sorry if it’s not really varied, but that’s a mix of my favorite artists, so dig it or ditch it.

In addition, I’m quoting some of my favorite songs that I think fit this day perfectly.

“Long lost words whisper slowly to me
Still can’t find what keeps me here
When all this time I’ve been so hollow inside
I know you’re still there”
“Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down”
“Haunting you I can smell you alive
Your heart pounding in my head”
(Haunted – Evanescence)

“Welcome to the torture chamber
Said the sign above the entrance
Laughing as he takes you by the hand
Looking like a manic savage
Inside you can sense the anguish
Theatre of pain has just begun”
“Mr. Torture gives pain
With his whips and his chains
He knows just what you crave
Mr. Torture”
(Mr. Torture – Helloween)

“It’s true, we’re all a little insane
But it’s so clear
Now that I’m unchained”
“Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time”
(Sweet Sacrifice – Evanescence)

“You should have known, the price of evil.
And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah
No one to call, everybody to fear.
Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah
Ooooooooh It’s your fuckin’ nightmare”
(Nightmare – Avenged Sevenfold)

“This night is alive with the smell of insane
It’s reaching for me and its calling my name
I beg for silence to drown out their weep
How did this asylum become where I sleep”
“All my Questions get no answers
Locked up tight from the world outside me
(No,No)
Mommy come get me out tonight
All my Questions have no answers
I can feel the fear inside me
(No,No)
Mommy come get me out tonight”
(St. John – We Are The Fallen)

Happy Halloween!

Challenge…

Hi there!
Busy, busy, busy, but I have decided that I want to challenge myself on this blog, so I asked my friends to give me a list of songs that they want me to write about. A bit of a challenge for them too, obviously, cause I haven’t got all the lists yet, but I got one, and I will start with it today. Since my dear friend knows this is a challenge, she decided to really give me something to wrap my brain around to write about. Really challenging, it is! (Okay, I’m well aware that I’m over-using the word “challenge” now, but that’s simply what it is, a challenge).
Anyways, here’s the 5 songs I’m going to write about for the few next posts:

1. Avenged Sevenfold – A Little Piece of Heaven
2. Axel Rudi Pell – Glory Night
3. The Lonely Island – Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde feat Rihanna
4. Nicki Minaj – Super Bass
5. Lil’ Wayne – How to Love

That’s a nice mixture from her very varied music taste. She actually wrote “Helloween – Mr. Torture” for second place, but I’ve already written about that song, as some of you may know, and actually mentioned in the post that I think of my friend when I listen to it! Anyways, she had to pick another song, so she chose Lil’ Wayne – How To Love. Like that song, so I don’t mind, but it would have been easier to write about Mr. Torture

Well, can’t promise you that I will start today, but if I don’t, I will start tomorrow, after 8 O’clock, the deadline, when I’ve finished my History assignment and delivered it one minute to 8… Haha – not kidding.

“Hold on, little girl
The end is soon to come
Sick of it all”
(Sick – Evanescence)

Helloween – Mr. Torture

Hi there! Before we get to the song, I would just like to warn you that I might not blog tomorrow, because I’m going to town by bus (Oh, yeah, living in a small village, absolutely no cool shops!), and then to a “all girls evening”, or whatever I really should call it. Anyway, All that takes time, and I might not have the time to blog tomorrow then.
So, over to the real topic: Doing something new, I have for today’s post chosen a song with a little bit of personal history! Today’s song is called “Mr. Torture” by Helloween. I love this song, for many reasons, which you will read about after listening to it. It was released on the album “The Dark Ride” in 2000. The lyrics is here, if they are hard to grasp for you. They don’t have a music video for this one, so it will be the first and best video, with good sound quality, that I could find on YouTube…

Now, for the many reasons of my love for this song.
Fist off, the playing is amazing.  And if you don’t think the other songs I’ve posted is hard core enough, this one will please you! It has a great solo, as most of the songs I love has. And where do I begin to describe the voice on this man? It almost sounds like he really is an opera singer, but it’s cool to put that kind of voice into this kind of song. It makes it special, and I like it.
So, for the personal reason I love this song so much. My best friend introduced me to this song, and she loves it too, and every time I listen to it, it reminds me of her. That is why I can tell you that I’ve listened quite a lot to this song over the summer, as we haven’t been together that much. Kind of weird that it would be this song that reminds me most of her, but oh, well, what can I say? I’m weird! So, it means a lot to me, this song is “ours” in a way.  But I hope you will share at least some of my love for it, if not all.

“Theater of pain has just begun”
(Mr. Torture – Helloween)
