Hey! It’s been a month since I last posted. I’ve thought a lot about writing something of finishing something I’ve already started, but I never got around to it. Now, I have a new idea! I “waste” a lot of time on a meme website called 9GAG. Right now, someone’s started a trend of making a list of “need to know” songs and putting their list on 9GAG. I thought I should hop on the train and make such a list of my own. The first one that started this trend (that I noticed, at least), had a rule not to include more than one song per artist/band, and so I wanted to do the same, but realized that it was too difficult for some bands, so I only tried to not include too many. I will just dive right into it, with no arrangement to the order in which I list the songs I feel you need to know. (of course this will be mainly rock/metal, since that’s my forte, but I might include some other songs as well, if I feel like you really need to know/listen to them).
I’ve made the list in Spotify, so you can go in and have a listen right away. Might get back to this post later and make a YouTube-playlist of it as well, but for now Spotify will have to do.

There’s just a handful of these songs that I don’t know every single word to, but they still evoke something in me that makes me think everyone should hear them. These songs are iconic to me, representing the band, the genre and the time period they were produced in perfectly. A few of these are covers, but I included them because they are so good that I feel they both do justice to the original artists and the songs, in addition to the covers being iconic themselves.

Links to the two lists that I found already, there are some very good songs in there, and some I have yet to check out.

Am I missing something obvious to you? Would you perhaps replace the song I’ve chosen by a(n) artist/band? What would be your most iconic/”need to know”-songs? Please let me know in the comment section.

“So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end
We hear the call to
To carry on
We’ll carry on”
(Welcome To The Black Parade – My Chemical Romance)

“I raise my flag and dye my clothes
It’s a revolution, I suppose
We’re painted red to fit right in”
(Radioactive – Imagine Dragons)

A lot has happened lately. Sad, tragic events driven by hate, evil, and even carelessness. The mass-shooting in Orlando, among other things. The revealing of decades of sexual assault among people in a community in my home county, is another. On top of that, several accidental deaths of people, gone too soon. Actually, the last year has been just all messed up. I don’t have any words to describe the feeling I have, really. Many of my favorite artists have made some great music addressing hate, disaster, and death, and so, I have made a playlist of songs that deal with these topics, that maybe can put words and sound to these feelings. You can subscribe to my Spotify list or go check it out on YouTube. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Take care of each other.

  • Disturbed – Who Taught You How To Hate
  • Evanescence – My Heart Is Broken
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Tonight The World Dies

Is anybody listening to me?
Is anybody else scared?”

Blowing off steam

Hi there! I want to say first and foremost that I really appreciate my readers, and I hope I make it worth coming back to this site, because all of you make it worthwhile for me to write.

However, I write this blog mainly to share great music and to express myself in the way I know how – through music (which I can’t make myself). Today I want to blow off some steam, and yesterday I made myself a new Spotify-list that I decided right now that I want to share, because I’ve been pretty much happily head banging all day, and this list is what keeps me sane (in addition to my boyfriend) whilst writing on my Bachelor’s thesis. Here’s the link to the list on my Spotify-channel, and below is the actual list, in case you don’t have Spotify and want to make it yourself (in alphabetical order after artist and album):

This list is 60 songs (at the current time, at least!), and by Spotify’s calculations, 4 hours and 40 minutes of heaviness. No, I didn’t include Evanescence in this one, I thought some of my lists might repeat themselves if I were to include them in all of them. This one I decided to call “Heavy Shit”, and might be added to over time, and some songs might even be removed as well, so keep checking in. (I might forget to add to this “physical” list, but I will try to remember). This might be somewhat like my anger nurturing list, but mostly I added these songs for the great head banging-factor and overall heaviness (okay, I might be a bit angry and frustrated over my paper, and that’s why I need these songs, but they are awesome to listen to anyway). Would love for you to come with heavy suggestions too, if you think some songs are missing; I might even add them.

“Let the right one in
Ya gotta go with the devil you know”
(The Devil You Know – Anthrax)

“One
Nothing wrong with me
Two
Nothing wrong with me
Three
Nothing wrong with me
Four
Nothing wrong with me”
(Bodies – Drowning Pool)

“I find the answers aren’t so clear
Wish I could find a way to disappear
All these thoughts they make no sense
I find bliss in ignorance
Nothing seems to go away
Over and over again”
[…]
“I need a little room to breathe
Cause I’m one step closer to the edge
And I’m about to break”
(One Step Closer – Linkin Park)

Hi! Now, for the post on Five Finger Death Punch, I’ve chosen Coming Down, off the album American Capitalist (2011). The music video contains strong images, so this might be hard to watch for some people. Here are the lyrics, and below is the music video.

This song has a very strong message, which I thing is very important to get out to people. That’s one of the reasons I chose to blog about this song, but obviously also because I really liked it.
The lyrics and the music video fits together, and the music video tells the stories of two young people with problems that led up to their suicide, as we saw in the start of the song, but which was prevented in the end by a “friend”. The lyrics, as I said, presents a strong message, and I like them a lot. There’s not much more to say about them, because the theme is so important, that it speaks for itself. The lyrics are simply just a brilliant way of expressing something so sad and important.
The song itself is good too, I like the build up from the verses to the refrain, and the refrain just kicks ass, it really brings out the lyrics great too. I especially like the drums in this one, and, of course, the guitar solo. It’s just a great song with great lyrics and a very important message.

“Was there ever any question
On how much I could take?
You kept feeding me with bullshit
Hoping I would break”
(Coming Down – Five Finger Death Punch)

NEWS!

Hey! So, I have some great news here… I’ve wanted to tell you for so long… for some time ago, my friend and I ordered tickets to the Avenged Sevenfold concert in Oslo, Norway in November! Yes, you read right, AVENGED SEVENFOLD! If that wasn’t enough, the support bands for this concert is Five Finger Death Punch AND Device! So, yeah, I’m super excited, and I wanted to share this good news with you (and make you envy me a little). BUT, not only that, I decided to make a big deal out of it on this blog, so for the next three posts, I will be dealing with songs from these three bands, starting with Avenged Sevenfold, of course.
ALSO: Avenged Sevenfold comes out with their sixth album on August 27th titled Hail to the King, and Five Finger Death Punch is coming out with their fourth album on July 30th titled The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1. For those of you who don’t know, Device is a newly formed industrial metal band, with David Draiman from Disturbed in the front, and they published their self titled debut album (Device) earlier this year (2013). So now you might form a vision of how this might sound.

This means there’s a lot of more good music coming on this blog soon, so stay tuned for more music and awesomeness.

“Come back to me, it’s almost easy”
“I’m losing the fight, I’ve treated you so wrong, now let me make it right”
(Almost Easy – Avenged Sevenfold)

Today I’ve decided to put together something to nurture the anger in you all, since it’s growing so well in me! -haha.

I seriously want to quote all songs, but I’m limiting myself to the first three…

“All of  my hate cannot be bound, I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming”
(Thoughtless – Korn)

“Don’t turn your back on me, I won’t be ignored”
(Faint – Linkin Park)

“I’m not your friend, I won’t soothe your soul, and in the end you’re all dead to me”
(Desecrate Through Reverence – Avenged Sevenfold)

Hello there! Today’s song is Dying Breed by the American heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch. The song was published in 2009 in the album War Is The Answer. Here are the lyrics, enjoy!

(Really strict copyright policies for 5FDP on their songs on YouTube, and to replace the video I posted in the past, this was the best I could do, but it doesn’t ruin the song, I think it’s good enough).

Edit: I found the recorded version of the song, concealed as a song called “Not Like You” by Slipknot, even though Slipknot has no such song, and it definitely isn’t Slipknot playing. Anyways, for those who don’t have Spotify and can find it there, this is the best thing.

The drums is the strongest instrument in this one, and I like it. It makes the song heavy, aggressive and hard core, along with the growling. I can also clearly hear the bass in there too, which is great. The lyrics are pretty awesome, and the guitar solo rocks, as well do the few riffs included. “Just a dead man walking with a double barreled shotgun”. How genius is that?!? I even got the refrain stuck in my head now. Really like it!

“All I wanted was your honesty
Something more than this, something more than me
Death can take me if I can’t be free
I’m not like you, I’m a dying breed”
(Dying Breed – Five Finger Death Punch)
