… and no posts published. That didn’t mean I didn’t listen to music, it just meant I needed a break. A long one. Too much other things to do. Life happened. Whatever. Now, I have thought many a time about starting this thing up again, but then I would fall asleep, or I run out of hot water, or my class started. I’ve even written some posts over the year, but never gotten around to post them.
I’ve listened to a lot of good music the last year, and came to the conclusion that good music needs to be listened to loudly, so I even changed my under-title.

Right now I’m supposed to write a hand-in for my psychology-class, but the music I was supposed to listen to IN THE BACKGROUND was more interesting than the task at hand. I cranked the volume up, and now I’m writing inspired by these wonderful tunes. I have so much to show you, even though you’ve probably heard it before, or at least should have heard it before. There’s been at least a couple of new albums that’s worth a listen-through the past year, so I have my work cut out for me.

So, for a start-up tune, I’ve chosen this; old, but gold:

Deep and dark, just like Amy herself, with hints of sinister forces. The choir, the instruments, the voice – wonderfully composed.

“Don’t turn away
Don’t try to hide
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t turn out the light”
(Whisper – Evanescence)

Hello! Today I’m doing a post on the song Everybody’s Fool by Evanescence. The song was published on the album Fallen in 2003, and it was the fourth single off the album. Here are the lyrics, and below is the music video.

(I added a version without the sound effects and the music video intro, because that may be very disturbing to some people)

I really like this song because I understand Amy’s intentions about writing it. She said that she wrote the song about celebrities with completely false images, and exposing that it’s all fake. “You’re not real and you can’t save me”. I think this song is amazing, and it deals with something important as well, which makes it even better. Of course I love the lyrics, and I think the vocals of Amy is stunning as usual, so powerful and beautiful. The guitars and drums sound good, and it all sounds so complete together, I just love it, and this reminds me of how great a band Evanescence was and still really is.

“Without the mask, where will you hide?
Can’t find yourself, lost in your lie
I know the truth now, I know who you are
And I don’t love you anymore”
(Everybody’s Fool – Evanescence)

Since yesterday was the 10th year anniversary of Evanescence’s debut album Fallen, (and since I wasn’t able to post this yesterday) I thought I would post the very debut single off the album, and to this day, the most famous song by the band of all times, and my favorite song. Here is Bring Me To Life by Evanescence.

Congratulations, world, on the World Evanescence Day (yesterday, March 4th), and congratulations to Evanescence for a fantastically successful album and 10 great years with the amazing sound of it.

And also, here is the complete album for you as well, since I’m such a nice person!

Evanescence – Imaginary

Hi there! So, as you all may know, yesterday was Valentines Day, but I really didn’t feel like, nor have the time to do a “romantic”  post, so instead, I’ll do you one better, by writing about a song by the band I love the most! Yes, this time I’m writing about Imaginary  by Evanescence. The song was published on their album Fallen in 2003. Here are the lyrics. Enjoy!

It actually took me a while to get used to this song. I couldn’t understand the lyrics, and because of that I couldn’t fully enjoy it. Now, on the other hand, I get them, and I really like them. Amy’s voice is strong, simply impeccable, as she sings these words of deeper meaning. The band is great, with awesome guitars, the piano, the strings, the beat. It just rocks so hard.
And… as a little treat for you, I added the live version of Imaginary  from Anywhere But Home (2004). Hope you enjoy this awesome piece of well-constructed sound as much as I do!

“I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge
The nightmare I built my own world to escape”
(Imaginary – Evanescence)

Life changing story

Hi! As you might have noticed, this blog is blog is about the music that I love and want to share my opinion about to the rest of the world for those who want to see. That is why I think it’s time you got to know a little something special.
I want to tell you a little story. The story of how I became interested in rock music and, most of all, how I became such a huge Evanescence fan. It all started about 7-8 years ago, I think. I was looking through my CD’s for music to fill my new MP3 player with. I listened to many songs, and decided to listen through one more of the hit single CD’s I had collected over the years. And there it was, the strangest thing. I couldn’t even read the name of the band, let alone pronounce it, but the song was called Bring Me To Life.
It was like an epiphany to me, something I’d never heard before, and something I’d never thought I would like. But there it was, the sweet and rough notes of Bring Me To Life was flowing through the speakers of my stereo, and I knew I needed to hear more. I remembered seeing the name “Ev-something something” on another CD, and I quickly looked through my other CD’s, only to find only one more song, My Immortal. That was it though, I was spellbound, and I knew I had to find more of this wonderful music.
This music has inspired and helped me through a lot of things over the years, both good and bad, and I don’t know what or who I would’ve been without it. You can almost say it brought me back to life.
Today I have all three studio albums, the live album, clothes and accessories all marked with the name of the music I’ve come to love so much.
Evanescence.

Evanescence – Tourniquet

Hey! Now, it’s been too long since last time, so it’s really due for another post. This time it’s Tourniquet by Evanescence (suggested by one of my dear friends, so it’s not me this time). Published on the album Fallen in 2003. Here are the lyrics, and the song below:

This song is very beautiful. Amy’s voice sounds so vulnerable and sincere, and I think it’s great. Let’s face it, this is a suicide song, but it’s about whether or not God will accept you if you kill yourself: “My God, my tourniquet, return to me salvation” “Will I be denied, Christ, tourniquet, my suicide”. It’s kind of cool that Amy has said that it has happened several times that she has started to crack up in laughter right before singing this song live, and making it hard for herself to sound serious, since she’s starting out with a sweet and calm tone “I tried to kill the pain, but only brought more”, and that is supposed to be sad and stuff, but she is struggling to not laugh. That is kind of funny, and makes the song not seem so serious after all. But it is, and the lyrics are so sad and, sadly mean so much to so many people, but I hope this will make people realize that they are not alone, and maybe also realize that things can really get better, because I know it can.  I really like the guitar riffs, and I think it’s awesome when she screams “I long to die!”, which is actually from Romeo and Juliet. I like this song. That’s it.

“I tried to kill the pain, but only brought more, so much more
I lay dying, and I’m pouring crimson regret and betrayal”
(Tourniquet – Evanescence)

Hey ya’ll! I thought I would do something new this time. I checked out the Live act Evanescence did in Morocco May 20th this year (2012), and figured, “why not share the joy?”. So, now I’m sharing!

The complete concert playlist consists of the songs:

  • What You Want (Evanescence)
  • Going Under (Fallen)
  • The Other Side (Evanescence)
  • Weight Of The World (The Open Door)
  • Made Of Stone (Evanescence)
  • Lost In Paradise (Evanescence)
  • My Heart Is Broken (Evanescence)
  • Lithium (The Open Door)
  • Sick (Evanescence)
  • The Change (Evanescence)
  • Call Me When You’re Sober (The Open Door)
  • Imaginary (Fallen)
  • Never Go Back (Evanescence)
  • Bring Me To Life (Fallen)
  • Swimming Home (Evanescence)
  • Your Star (The Open Door)
  • My Immortal (Fallen)

Below are the songs in correct order, and in pretty good quality. (It pissed me off that WordPress wouldn’t let me post the songs as video clips, only as links, but unfortunately I can’t do anything about that). I hope you all will enjoy this little treat. (If not, you will waste more than an hour listening to this anyway!)

Edit: Now all the links I put up for you have been taken down by YouTube, so the only thing I have to offer you is the complete video of the concert, with progressively more delay towards the end of the concert (which I must say I hate, and I would never publish for you if there was any other way). Apparently the copyright laws are strict in Morocco, so this is the only thing you get. I hope you still can enjoy this great concert.

Always confusing the thoughts in my head, so I can’t trust myself anymore”

Evanescence – Whisper

Hello there! Lost my internet connection last night before I got the chance to publish the post. Anyways, here it is.
Today’s song is Whisper by Evanescence. It was published on the album “Fallen” in 2003. The lyrics you can read here.
I’ve been wanting to write about Whisper for such a long time, but then I got other ideas for new posts, so it has just been postponed over and over again and it has slipped my mind. But now is the time, I give you now, “Whisper” by Evanescence!

It’s such an epic song! I simply just love the playing, and the choir is awesome. It really gives the song an extra push. The guitar intro rocks, and so does the solo too. The lyrics are hauntingly dark, and that makes the song even more epic. It really fills my body with a pleasant feeling. Amy’s vocals are extraordinary, as usual, I’d say. I think, as I may have said before, violins and rock fits greatly together, so the violins in the bridge from the refrain to solo are perfect. The soft piano playing in the background has a nice melody, and it’s so great to be able to listen to the song over and over again and discover new elements in the song that makes it better.
This song has several different versions, where in one of them with a sample intro from “O Verona”, and in another one you can hear an extract from the movie “My World Dies Screaming”, also known as “Terror in the Haunted House”. (Here is the O Verona Version if you want to listen).
The Latin words in the end are repeated several times, “Servatis a periculum, servatis a maleficum” means “Save us from danger, save us from evil”. Love the fact that they actually used Latin in the song, makes it special.

“I’m frightened by what I see
But somehow I know
That there’s much more to come
Immobilized by my fear
And soon to be blinded by tears”
(Whisper – Evanescence)

Hello! That’s right, I’m taking the blog to a new level. Moving forward from the hard-core blog it have been, to a blog about all of the music that I love! Starting the transition smoothly, I will today write my thoughts around Hello by Evanescence.  (I know I sound over-dramatic about this, but sometimes I just love being a drama queen!)
Now, the lyrics you will find here, on this link, and following, we have the video (this one is made of clips from other Ev-music videos, not bad, really), which is not the real music video for Hello, because there simply is none. Published on “Fallen” in 2003.

Now, this is a song with some sad, personal history for Amy. She lost her sister at young age, she was only 3 years old when she passed away. This is one of the two songs Amy wrote about her late sister. It’s really slow, and amazingly beautiful. The lyrics are so sad, and I actually started to cry the first time I heard it. The violin part is calming, and you can really hear that the song means a lot to Amy, by the way she sings it, and that’s a great quality in this song, and every other song too, for that matter. I will end this by simply saying: The song is beautiful.

“Don’t try to fix me, I’m not broken. Hello, I’m the lie living for you so you can hide. Don’t cry”
(Hello – Evanescence)

Evanescence – Going Under

Hi there, all my fabulous readers! New day, new song. Today’s song is Going Under by Evanescence, because when I don’t quite know which song to chose, I go for a well known and loved song, and by Evanescence of course, because I know most about them and I know their songs by heart.
Published on Fallen in 2003, to have it said.
Anyway, the lyrics is here, and the video, real music video this time, is here:

Now, that’s hard core! (Or what I call hard core, at least). Love the whole song (as usual, nothing new there, then!). The music video is dark, both literary and imagery speaking. It’s twisted, in the way of the fans’ faces being all crazy, making it seem like the song is about the fans dragging her down, when it’s actually about an abusive boyfriend (did a little research there). Anyway, Amy’s bad relationships turn out to make great songs. This one is no exception. It’s dark and beautiful, just like Amy herself.
Like the solo, because I like a great guitar solo. Amy sings amazing as she always does. She gets the message across wonderfully with her strong voice and high notes. And just to have it mentioned, I absolutely love the lyrics.
Love it, just love it.

“Don’t want your hand this time, I’ll save myself”
(Going Under – Evanescence)
