Hey! It’s been a month since I last posted. I’ve thought a lot about writing something of finishing something I’ve already started, but I never got around to it. Now, I have a new idea! I “waste” a lot of time on a meme website called 9GAG. Right now, someone’s started a trend of making a list of “need to know” songs and putting their list on 9GAG. I thought I should hop on the train and make such a list of my own. The first one that started this trend (that I noticed, at least), had a rule not to include more than one song per artist/band, and so I wanted to do the same, but realized that it was too difficult for some bands, so I only tried to not include too many. I will just dive right into it, with no arrangement to the order in which I list the songs I feel you need to know. (of course this will be mainly rock/metal, since that’s my forte, but I might include some other songs as well, if I feel like you really need to know/listen to them).
I’ve made the list in Spotify, so you can go in and have a listen right away. Might get back to this post later and make a YouTube-playlist of it as well, but for now Spotify will have to do.

  • Disturbed – The Sound Of Silence / Down With The Sickness

There’s just a handful of these songs that I don’t know every single word to, but they still evoke something in me that makes me think everyone should hear them. These songs are iconic to me, representing the band, the genre and the time period they were produced in perfectly. A few of these are covers, but I included them because they are so good that I feel they both do justice to the original artists and the songs, in addition to the covers being iconic themselves.

Links to the two lists that I found already, there are some very good songs in there, and some I have yet to check out.

Am I missing something obvious to you? Would you perhaps replace the song I’ve chosen by a(n) artist/band? What would be your most iconic/”need to know”-songs? Please let me know in the comment section.

“So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end
We hear the call to
To carry on
We’ll carry on”
(Welcome To The Black Parade – My Chemical Romance)

“I raise my flag and dye my clothes
It’s a revolution, I suppose
We’re painted red to fit right in”
(Radioactive – Imagine Dragons)

Hey! Been working on this post all evening/night, and finally done, I don’t want to wait any longer to publish it. Inspired by Loudwire’s list of 10 unforgettable crowd participation moments (which you can find here), I wanted to make a list myself. It contains my favorites, including many of the suggestions made in the comment section on YouTube, which, in my opinion, were far better than many of the one’s on Loudwire’s list.
This is in no particular order, so don’t come complaining about that to me. I’m doing it this way because many of them are equally great in different ways, with their own qualities and moods which they evoke.

Avenged Sevenfold – Unholy Confessions (Live in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA, 2014)

Foo Fighters – My Hero (Live in Bogotá, Colombia, 2015)

Linkin Park – In The End (Live at Rock Am Ring in Mendig, Germany, 2004)

Metallica – Creeping Death (Live in Moscow, Russia, 1991)

Slash, Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators – Sweet Child O’ Mine (Live in Mumbai, India, 2015)

Disturbed  – Down With The Sickness (Live at Rock Am Ring in Mendig, Germany, 2008)

Evanescence  – My Immortal (Live in Paris, France, 2004)

Rammstein – Du Hast (Live at Download Festival, Leicestershire, England, 2013)

AC/DC – Thunderstruck (Live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2011)

Machine Head – Darkness Within (Live in London, England, 2014)

So, here you have it. I personally think these are just as good or even better than the list Loudwire made, even though several of the ones on Loudwire’s list were great (I couldn’t just copy it either, could I?). I could go on and on about things you should notice, like the band’s reaction to the fans, or the sheer loudness and harmony of the crowd. This kind of interaction between artists and fans is an extraordinary phenomenon.
I want to know what are your contribution(s) to the list, what do you think I should check out? Are there even better versions of the artists and songs I’ve chosen? Please leave a comment below.

“Music, my savior, save me”
(Darkness Within – Machine Head)

A lot has happened lately. Sad, tragic events driven by hate, evil, and even carelessness. The mass-shooting in Orlando, among other things. The revealing of decades of sexual assault among people in a community in my home county, is another. On top of that, several accidental deaths of people, gone too soon. Actually, the last year has been just all messed up. I don’t have any words to describe the feeling I have, really. Many of my favorite artists have made some great music addressing hate, disaster, and death, and so, I have made a playlist of songs that deal with these topics, that maybe can put words and sound to these feelings. You can subscribe to my Spotify list or go check it out on YouTube. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Take care of each other.

  • Disturbed – Who Taught You How To Hate
  • Evanescence – My Heart Is Broken
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Tonight The World Dies
  • Machine Head – Damage Inside
  • Five Finger Death Punch – Coming Down
  • Alter Bridge – Blackbird
  • Amy Lee feat. Dave Eggar – Lockdown
  • Korn – Thoughtless
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Almost Easy
  • Evanescence – Together Again
  • Lady Gaga – Til It Happens To You
  • Seether feat. Amy Lee – Broken
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Save Me
  • Machine Head – Who We Are
  • Slipknot – Dead Memories
  • Evanescence – Oceans
  • We Are The Fallen – Don’t Leave Me Behind
  • Avenged Sevenfold – Seize The Day
  • Linkin Park – No More Sorrow
  • Evanescence – My Last Breath
  • Machine Head – Is There Anybody Out There?

“Tell me now, who taught you how to hate?
Cause it isn’t in your blood, not a part of what you’re made”
(Who Taught You How To Hate – Disturbed)

“Is there anybody out there?
Is anybody listening to me?
Is anybody else scared?”
(Is There Anybody Out There? – Machine Head)

Playlist: Super-excited

Hi there! As I was telling you in the last post, I have kind of taken a one-year (and then some) vacation from my blogging, and there is some things I’ve wanted to show you but haven’t gotten around to yet. I realize I never got to write about the Avenged Sevenfold concert that I went to November 2013. I can’t remember all the details now, so I’ll just say that except for almost passing out and getting stomped on by several mosh pits, it was amazing, and even better than I expected. They really are as good live as they are in the studio, and maybe even better. Their playing is impeccable.

So, abut this playlist: about two months ago, I was planning my return to the blogosphere, and after the past few months regaining my music excitement and inspiration, I made a playlist for myself of some of the songs I’ve gotten most excited about this past year-or-so. I will eventually blog about the songs that’s on this list, and some I’ve already blogged about, so don’t freak out that you haven’t heard them on this platform before. For now I’ll just leave this here for you to listen to and judge for yourselves.

  • Paramore – Now
  • Amy Lee (feat. Dave Eggar) – Lockdown
  • Audioslave – Show Me How To Live
  • Avenged Sevenfold – St. James
  • Machine Head – Now We Die
  • System Of A Down – B.Y.O.B
  • Korn feat. Amy Lee – Freak On A Leash (live)
  • Avenged Sevenfold – I Won’t See You Tonight Part 1
  • Disturbed – Stricken
  • Imagine Dragons – Battle Cry
  • Evanescence – If You Don’t Mind
  • Machine Head – Game Over (added to the list today because it’s stuck in my head, and I get excited by listening to it!)

I’ve made the list on Spotify, but with some of my local files that I’ve downloaded.
Here’s the link: https://open.spotify.com/user/catta_94/playlist/4FruvOaAr5DmbJ779jy7lm
I’ve also taken the time to make the playlist on YouTube for you.  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcBOQEQM17Cs9V2-qeqJ3yhlDM7UXWQbo

“Don’t try to take this from me, don’t try to take this from me now”

(Now – Paramore)

“And if you don’t mind, I would like to live a lie that I will survive”

(If You Don’t Mind – Evanescence)

… and no posts published. That didn’t mean I didn’t listen to music, it just meant I needed a break. A long one. Too much other things to do. Life happened. Whatever. Now, I have thought many a time about starting this thing up again, but then I would fall asleep, or I run out of hot water, or my class started. I’ve even written some posts over the year, but never gotten around to post them.
I’ve listened to a lot of good music the last year, and came to the conclusion that good music needs to be listened to loudly, so I even changed my under-title.

Right now I’m supposed to write a hand-in for my psychology-class, but the music I was supposed to listen to IN THE BACKGROUND was more interesting than the task at hand. I cranked the volume up, and now I’m writing inspired by these wonderful tunes. I have so much to show you, even though you’ve probably heard it before, or at least should have heard it before. There’s been at least a couple of new albums that’s worth a listen-through the past year, so I have my work cut out for me.

So, for a start-up tune, I’ve chosen this; old, but gold:

Deep and dark, just like Amy herself, with hints of sinister forces. The choir, the instruments, the voice – wonderfully composed.

“Don’t turn away
Don’t try to hide
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t turn out the light”
(Whisper – Evanescence)

  • Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare
  • Helloween – Mr. Torture
  • We Are The Fallen – St. John
  • Evanescence – Haunted
  • Slipknot – Eyeless

Now, I think these songs are great and pretty perfect for Halloween, both in sound and in lyrics, but I’m wondering if you have any others I need to add to my list?
What are your favorite songs to listen to on Halloween? Hit me with your best, scariest, most awesome songs.

“I’m the spider crawling down your spine,
Underneath your skin.
I will gently violate your mind,
Before I tuck you in.”
(Mz. Hyde – Halestorm)

“I am hell to thee
Down here all shall suffer with me
Die purified
Rise the ashes to the sky”
(I Am Hell (Sonata in C#) – Machine Head)

Hey there! So, suddenly inspired and after checking that I didn’t do anything with this song before, I chose today to write about Weight Of The World by Evanescence. The song was published on the album The Open Door in 2006. Here are the lyrics. Listen and enjoy.

The intro is really rocking and cool, and I like the sound of Amy’s voice when she sings “Feels like the weight of the world, like God in heaven gave me a turn”, it sounds almost distorted, I think it’s really cool. I also like the choir, especially in verse two, the wailing sound fits the song perfectly. Amy’s vocals are rocking this song, and the most awesome feature in this song is the incredible falsetto voice she goes into towards the end, and what’s more incredible is that she does that live as well! The whole song is influenced by the attitude in Amy’s voice, just awesome. The lyrics are a little dark, and seems even darker by the sound of the song. The riffs are rocking too, and the drums… you hear it even better in the live version how cool it is. It’s brilliant.
So, here is a live version of the song from Rock In Rio 2011, hope you enjoy this as well, it’s such a great performance.

“Feels like the weight of the world
Like all my screaming has come unheard”
(Weight Of The World – Evanescence)

Hey there! Okay, so today’s post is not going to be the conventional kind of blog post… I just had to share with you this pearl of a clip of Evanescence that I found on Twitter (and also retweeted, of course!), which I personally loved. This is Disappear  off their album Evanescence (2011). So, I’m not going to comment on Amy’s amazing vocals and awesome playing of the band, even not the crazy, surprising and cool guitar solo, because I know you can hear it, I’m just posting this clip and saving the comments for a later occasion. Listen and enjoy!

“Don’t you want to feel?
Don’t you want to live your life?
How much longer are you gonna give into the fear
I can’t go on pretending
So give me something real
No one in your way but you
How much longer are you gonna give into the fear

Holding you down ’til you disappear”
(Disappear – Evanescence)

Hello! Today I’m doing a post on the song Everybody’s Fool by Evanescence. The song was published on the album Fallen in 2003, and it was the fourth single off the album. Here are the lyrics, and below is the music video.

(I added a version without the sound effects and the music video intro, because that may be very disturbing to some people)

I really like this song because I understand Amy’s intentions about writing it. She said that she wrote the song about celebrities with completely false images, and exposing that it’s all fake. “You’re not real and you can’t save me”. I think this song is amazing, and it deals with something important as well, which makes it even better. Of course I love the lyrics, and I think the vocals of Amy is stunning as usual, so powerful and beautiful. The guitars and drums sound good, and it all sounds so complete together, I just love it, and this reminds me of how great a band Evanescence was and still really is.

“Without the mask, where will you hide?
Can’t find yourself, lost in your lie
I know the truth now, I know who you are
And I don’t love you anymore”
(Everybody’s Fool – Evanescence)

Since yesterday was the 10th year anniversary of Evanescence’s debut album Fallen, (and since I wasn’t able to post this yesterday) I thought I would post the very debut single off the album, and to this day, the most famous song by the band of all times, and my favorite song. Here is Bring Me To Life by Evanescence.

Congratulations, world, on the World Evanescence Day (yesterday, March 4th), and congratulations to Evanescence for a fantastically successful album and 10 great years with the amazing sound of it.
