Hi there! It’s about time I did another song review, like I normally do. I’ve had this song stuck on my mind for the past week or so, which came out of nowhere – I haven’t listened to this song in a long time. The song I’m writing about today is called Slip To The Void by Alter Bridge off the album AB III (2010). I think you will notice I’ve thought of and listened to this song a lot. Here are the lyrics. Enjoy!

I can’t really put my finger on it, but there is just something about this song that is greatly satisfying to listen to. Myles Kennedy’s voice is amazing, the guitar riffs are heavy and sort of edgy, and the song just rocks out to lyrics that are actually pretty depressing and haunting. The intro is calm, with an eerie mood, introduced by a synth, and Kennedy’s voice almost whispering the imperative “Slip to the void, to the dark, to the fall…”. The calmness is not comforting, but more like a sense of  ‘calm before the storm’. Moving on, the song introduces the strumming of a guitar and muffled sound of the bass, as Kennedy goes on with more warnings, and you can almost feel the guilt sneak up on you with “My God, what have you done? You don’t belong here”.
The song hits a break-through point as Myles goes off with his voice “Sever the ties, trip the wire, dig your hole…”, and you can see the full potential of the song. Kennedy really can do wonders with his voice, taking it down to almost a whisper and up to those high notes.
Harmonizing vocals in the chorus and bridge with Mark Tremonti makes the sound very full in volume, their voices really fit well together. In the bridge there is a split guitar solo as well, between the singing, which is quite good, but isn’t very long in duration, and it seems like the guitar riffs is more important in this song rather than the solo, which I don’t mind.
The song finishes the way it started, drums stopping as sudden as they had started, fading out the guitars, and takes it down to only the synth as it also fades out to a stop. I’ve listened to this song so many times this week alone, I really can’t count it, and still manage to get a creepy feeling in the intro, a feeling of guilt and shame by the lyrics, and a sense of satisfaction by the harmonizing chorus and awesome guitar riffs.

“Doubt is alive and you know
You were once led to believe
You were young and so naive
But now no longer”
(Slip To The Void – Alter Bridge)

Evanescence – Farther Away

Hey! Today I’m doing a post on the song Farther Away by Evanescence. The song was published on the Mystary EP (2002) as a B-side on the Bring Me To Life Single (2003), and later was published on Anywhere But Home (2004) in a live version. Here are the lyrics, and here’s the song:

I love the introduction riffs on this song. Jesus Christ, they are awesome! The lyrics are slightly dark, and just the way I like them. “I sold my soul just to hide the light”. Dark indeed. I have said it before, and I say it again, Amy Lee has an incredible voice! “Don’t leave me here, by myself, I can’t breathe”. Just saying.
The guitar riffs are, as I said, awesome, and I quite like the drum beat in the end. I don’t think that is regular drums, but rather some kind of tribal drums. I also love that in the end you can hear the piano playing a very sweet melody. The contrast between the guitars and the piano is pretty cool.

“Tried to forget you, but without you I feel nothing”
(Farther Away – Evanescence)

Hi there! Well, it’s about freaking time I wrote something, so here it goes…

Today’s song will be St. John by We Are The Fallen. The song was published in 2010 on the album Tear The World Down.
Here’s the lyrics, and video below:

This is a really dark song, with some even darker lyrics. St. John is actually a mental hospital, so thereof the lyrics “When did this asylum become where I sleep”.  It rocks, with brilliant riffs and hard playing all the way through, and it haunts you. You can really feel it with the piano in the intro, followed by a few chugs from heavy guitars, and even Carly’s voice sounds haunting.
Not much more to say, just listen and enjoy.

“My whole world’s forsaken
Won’t let you destroy my faith again”
(St. John – We Are The Fallen)

Hey y’all! Really sorry I didn’t post anything yesterday, but my internet connection is equal to zero at my new place. Anyways, it’s time for a new song, and today’s will be Through Hell by We Are The Fallen. The song was published on 2010 on their album, “Tear The World Down”. The lyrics are easy to hear, but if you want them anyways, you can find them here. There’s no real music video for this song.

First I would like to say that the lyrics are really cool, and kind of dark, and suits well for a gothic rock song, for that kind of great playing. The use of a choir is neat, it makes the song more like a gothic song, I think. As I normally do, I will mention my love for guitar solos, and this one will be no exception. It’s good, but it’s too short, I think. They could have made more out of it. I like it anyways. Rocking guitars and pounding drums are some of the things that makes me like this genre. Really, it’s all just great.

“All my tears pull me through hell again”
(Through Hell – We Are The Fallen)

Hi! Today I’m featuring another band from my little collection, Avenged Sevenfold. Just started listening to them a year ago or so, so this is the song I listen the most to. It’s from their newest album, also titled “Nightmare”, published in 2010.
The lyrics is here if you want them, but I advise you to listen to it a couple of times to both get the lyrics and the video.

Dark song, really, it’s dark, but surprisingly enough I always get in a good mood when I listen to this song. Love the beginning, it’s a nice touch to the song, to start that way. When it starts, I emediately manage to recognize it, and have caught myself with a little smile on my mouth when I listen to it. I guess it reminds me of someone. Anyway, dark and cool, but I don’t care for that tarantella in the music video, because I hate spiders! That’s the only drag down for me on this one. Plus, it might sometimes feel like it’s a tad too long, but hey, I don’t think I need to mention the solo on this one, and if that’s what makes the song long, then let it be so.

“You should have known the price of evil, and it hurts to know that you belong here”
(Nightmare – Avenged Sevenfold)
