The Pretty Reckless – Zombie

Hi! Today’s song is Zombie by The Pretty Reckless. The song was published on the The Pretty Reckless EP. Here are the lyrics, and also below in the video:

Taylor’s voice is very good, and the lyrics are amazing. They kind of kicked ass: “To all the people left behind, you are walking dumb and blind”. Maybe she could have cut out the prolonged singing of the word “dead”, but otherwise a good song. The intro is cool, and the whole song seems like a statement, very laid-back, but awesome. The song sort of stuck to my brain, kind of catchy refrain, and I thought I should share it. Worth a listen.

“To all of you who wronged me, I am, I am a zombie
Again, again you want me to fall on my head”
(Zombie – The Pretty Reckless)

I seriously want to quote all songs, but I’m limiting myself to the first three…

“All of  my hate cannot be bound, I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming”
(Thoughtless – Korn)

“Don’t turn your back on me, I won’t be ignored”
(Faint – Linkin Park)

“I’m not your friend, I won’t soothe your soul, and in the end you’re all dead to me”
(Desecrate Through Reverence – Avenged Sevenfold)

Evanescence – Tourniquet

Hey! Now, it’s been too long since last time, so it’s really due for another post. This time it’s Tourniquet by Evanescence (suggested by one of my dear friends, so it’s not me this time). Published on the album Fallen in 2003. Here are the lyrics, and the song below:

This song is very beautiful. Amy’s voice sounds so vulnerable and sincere, and I think it’s great. Let’s face it, this is a suicide song, but it’s about whether or not God will accept you if you kill yourself: “My God, my tourniquet, return to me salvation” “Will I be denied, Christ, tourniquet, my suicide”. It’s kind of cool that Amy has said that it has happened several times that she has started to crack up in laughter right before singing this song live, and making it hard for herself to sound serious, since she’s starting out with a sweet and calm tone “I tried to kill the pain, but only brought more”, and that is supposed to be sad and stuff, but she is struggling to not laugh. That is kind of funny, and makes the song not seem so serious after all. But it is, and the lyrics are so sad and, sadly mean so much to so many people, but I hope this will make people realize that they are not alone, and maybe also realize that things can really get better, because I know it can.  I really like the guitar riffs, and I think it’s awesome when she screams “I long to die!”, which is actually from Romeo and Juliet. I like this song. That’s it.

“I tried to kill the pain, but only brought more, so much more
I lay dying, and I’m pouring crimson regret and betrayal”
(Tourniquet – Evanescence)

Hello there! Today’s song is Dying Breed by the American heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch. The song was published in 2009 in the album War Is The Answer. Here are the lyrics, enjoy!

(Really strict copyright policies for 5FDP on their songs on YouTube, and to replace the video I posted in the past, this was the best I could do, but it doesn’t ruin the song, I think it’s good enough).

Edit: I found the recorded version of the song, concealed as a song called “Not Like You” by Slipknot, even though Slipknot has no such song, and it definitely isn’t Slipknot playing. Anyways, for those who don’t have Spotify and can find it there, this is the best thing.

The drums is the strongest instrument in this one, and I like it. It makes the song heavy, aggressive and hard core, along with the growling. I can also clearly hear the bass in there too, which is great. The lyrics are pretty awesome, and the guitar solo rocks, as well do the few riffs included. “Just a dead man walking with a double barreled shotgun”. How genius is that?!? I even got the refrain stuck in my head now. Really like it!

“All I wanted was your honesty
Something more than this, something more than me
Death can take me if I can’t be free
I’m not like you, I’m a dying breed”
(Dying Breed – Five Finger Death Punch)

Hey! I think it’s been a long time since last time I did an Evanescence review, so now is the time. This time it’s Call Me When You’re Sober, off the album The Open Door (2006). Just saying something similar to what Amy Lee did in an concert before playing this: This one’s for the girls! The lyrics are here, and the awesome music video is below:

The song is just amazing. Amy looks smashing as always, inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, just darker, more gothic-like. They even included a wolf. Brilliant. The lyrics are cool and have an attitude, like when she sings “Should have let you fall, lose it all” and  “You never call me when you’re sober, you only want it cause it’s over, aah, it’s over”. With a bittersweet start, so to say, Amy takes us away with clear vocals and the piano, followed by the rest of the band into the epicness of the song. The piano is pretty prominent as an instrument in this song, the melody is wonderful.  The song ends as it starts, with a little twist, and Amy’s deep gaze into the camera, mesmerizing us with her eyes.

“How could I have burned paradise?
How could I? You were never mine.”
(Call Me When You’re Sober – Evanescence)

Hi ya’ll! Today I’m doing a post on the song Desecrate Through Reverence by Avenged Sevenfold. The song was published on the album Waking The Fallen in 2003. You can read the lyrics here (and I suggest you do, because they’re not easy to follow without reading!)

The guitar riffs in the intro could easily fit into a horror movie or something. I really love the whole intro of  the song. The song itself gave me the chills – multiple times. The lyrics are very angry, but I like them very much. I guess it says more about me than the song, oh well… I really think this is a great song, even though you might struggle a bit hearing what they actually sing if you don’t have the lyrics to check up on. However, I wish it din’t end so sudden, but the song can’t be awesome in every way. This song rocks hard!

“It’s not true, I don’t need you
Don’t waste your time, and don’t waste mine
I’m not your friend, I won’t soothe your soul
And in the end you’re all dead to me”
(Desecrate Through Reverence – Avenged Sevenfold)

Slipknot – Duality

Hey! Now, it’s been too long since last time, so it’s really due for another post. This time it’s Duality by Slipknot. Published on the album Vol 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004, and became the first single off the album. Wise choice, I must say. Here are the lyrics, and the crazy music video below:

I’ve just been walking around for a couple of weeks now, whispering to myself “I push my fingers into my EYES!”, just smiling about it, so now I thought it was about time I shared this song with you. Finally some true inspiration!

I really enjoyed the opening line “I push my fingers into my eyes!” in a strange way. The brutality of it all just appealed to me. Further on, he sings “Jesus, it never ends”, and he’s right, and that is a thing I would say myself, so I really liked that he just sang it straight forward. Actually, I think the whole song is awesome in terms of the lyrics. I could go on quoting examples, but I will try to detain myself.

I think the riffs are seriously great, and I love the way the song is built up, the way Corey just speaks the lyrics in the verses is just creepy “I’ve left behind this little fact, you cannot kill what you did not create”.  The piano in the intro makes the mood creepy too.
Freaking fantastic!

“I gotta say what I gotta say, and then I swear I’ll go away
But I can’t promise you’ll enjoy the noise”
(Duality – Slipknot)
