Goo Goo Dolls – Iris

Hey! Today’s song will be Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. The song was published in 1998 on the album Dizzy Up The Girl, but was made for the film City Of Angels (1998). Lyrics are here, and below is the song:

The song has such strong lyrics, they say so much. I love the instrumental part of the song, and the use of violin in the song, it creates a little more drama to it. This is a really beautiful piece of music.

I also have a good friend of mine that did a cover of this song that I think was wonderful. I once featured it here in this post, but unfortunately he removed it from his YouTube channel, which I think is too bad, because I would love to hear it again. He’s still a great singer and musician though, even greater than when he did the cover. Just wanted to let you know what happened to the video.

“And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am”
(Iris – Goo Goo Dolls)

Hey there! I though that since so many enjoyed the last live show of Evanescence, I could post a great video shot from Evanescence’s concert at Rock am Ring in Germany this year. This time it’s the entire concert in one video (thank God!). The only thing that sucks about this live take is that we miss the beginning of What You Want because of the show hosts, but otherwise this is a great concert by Evanescence, that really rocks! (Of course, it’s called Rock am Ring for a reason!).

Slightly disturbing those huge yellow balloons they trow around, but otherwise a great show. Thought it was a bit funny when Amy repeatedly said “Danke” (which means thank you). Also loved the idea that they started with a new song, and ended it all with Bring Me To Life. The audience was much better here than in Morocco, though. At this concert they actually sung along and cheered a lot, and I can’t help myself but smiling when they went wild between every time Amy sung “I can’t see your star”, (in the song Your Star, obviously!) and it seems Amy couldn’t either.

“Can’t break the silence, it’s breaking me”
(Your Star – Evanescence)

Hey! Today’s song is Love Bites (So Do I) by Halestorm. The song was published on their new album, The Strange Case Of… (2012).  The lyrics are here, and the music video is below:

I really enjoy the lyrics to this song. They have such an attitude, and Lzzy sings them with such attitude, in a strange way it makes me a little more proud to be a woman. Lzzy has a voice that really suits singing in a rock band.
The drum beat gives the song such a high tempo, and drives the song so fast forward, that it gives the song an extra edge. I also liked the guitar solo, though it’s a little short for me, but then again, there’s beat driving the song forward. No time for stretched-out guitar solos!
The music video isn’t that special, except for the way Arejay handles his drums. Oh, well…

“I know a thousand ways to help you forget about her
That bitch can eat her heart out
Love bites, but so do I, so do I”
(Love Bites (So Do I) – Halestorm)

KoЯn – Thoughtless

Hi. Today’s song is Thoughtless by the American nu-metal band KoЯn. The song was published in 2002 on the album Untouchables. Here are the lyrics, and below is the music video (with “bad” words discretely cut) and the full song:

This is an angry and aggressive song. The lyrics clearly state that “all of my hate cannot be bound”, so there you have it. The use of swearing in the lyrics also helps the song seem even more aggressive, “What the fuck you think it’s doing to me?”.  The music video is somewhat creepy and nasty if you ask me, but suits well for the lyrics. I actually like the whole idea that the “anger” is right beneath the skin, ready to burst out any time. I think the guitar riffs are great, and the song just rocks straight all the way through.

“All of my hate cannot be bound, I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming
So you can try to tear me down, beat me to the ground, I will see you screaming”
(Thoughtless – KoЯn)

Evanescence – Farther Away

Hey! Today I’m doing a post on the song Farther Away by Evanescence. The song was published on the Mystary EP (2002) as a B-side on the Bring Me To Life Single (2003), and later was published on Anywhere But Home (2004) in a live version. Here are the lyrics, and here’s the song:

I love the introduction riffs on this song. Jesus Christ, they are awesome! The lyrics are slightly dark, and just the way I like them. “I sold my soul just to hide the light”. Dark indeed. I have said it before, and I say it again, Amy Lee has an incredible voice! “Don’t leave me here, by myself, I can’t breathe”. Just saying.
The guitar riffs are, as I said, awesome, and I quite like the drum beat in the end. I don’t think that is regular drums, but rather some kind of tribal drums. I also love that in the end you can hear the piano playing a very sweet melody. The contrast between the guitars and the piano is pretty cool.

“Tried to forget you, but without you I feel nothing”
(Farther Away – Evanescence)
