Archive for February, 2012

Well, just wanted to post something today too, so that I proudly can say I’ve managed to blog the entire week!
I thought I could post the link to Evanescence’s Valentine’s Day-playlist on Spotify, if you didn’t get a chance to hear it yet, so here it is, My Heart Is Broken (Evanescence + Fans Playlist) .

(The picture that won the Evanescence Valentine’s Day card contest)

I also thought I should mention that I will soon start on another challenge, so I’ll keep you posted – haha!

“I can’t go on living this way
And I can’t go back the way I came”

Linkin Park – New Divide

Hi there!
Today it’s a short review of the song “New Divide” by Linkin Park. It was released as a single for the movie “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in 2009. (Funny how I come across songs that has been on one of the “Transformers” movies. They’re great at selecting songs, I suppose!)
The lyrics for the song you can find here, and now for the song:
(I will warn you that the lyrics will appear on screen too, because the YouTube version with the freaking music video was slightly damaged, I would say… hope you will enjoy it anyway)

The vocalist, Chester  Bennington, has an incredible voice. He sounds a bit boyish, but still he got this roughness in his voice that clearly comes through in the refrain. The song is well made, simply because of the playing, because of the guitar riffs and drums. I especially like the intro and ending. The lyrics are deep and meaningful, indicating change, but really, it could be about anything.

“In every loss, in every lie,
In every truth that you deny,
and each regret and each goodbye, was a mistake too great to hide
and your voice was all I heard, that I get what I deserve”
(New Divide – Linkin Park)

Today I’m going to do something really different. I’m going to do a review of a cover. The song is called Titanium, and was mad by David Guetta and Sia. The real version was published last year (2011), on the album Nothing But The Beat. The Lyrics are here, they’re totally worth a look (though I suspect they are a little wrong on that site, not sure).

The cover version by Collin McLaughlin:

The original version by David Guetta and Sia:

I normally wouldn’t do cover versions, but in this case I have to say I need to put my principals aside and show the world this great singer. My friend got me hooked on it, and I went with it stuck in my mind for over a week! All over my hand was the incredible lyrics to this song.
I know It’s David Guetta who wrote it, and that makes him a little bit brilliant in my eyes, but I think Collins version is way better than the original version, song wise. It’s still the same notes, just that it’s stripped of techno-rhythms.
Collin has made it sorer than it usually seems, and he gets the meaning more forward since it’s about a soar theme, even though the song is telling us to stay strong no matter what. (I actually did a presentation about this song in school, presenting the themes and the choice of words linked to the meaning of the song – not that it interests you at all, just saying).
I really hope you like the cover version. Enjoy.

“Stone-hard, machine gun
Firing at the ones who run
Stone-hard, like bulletproof glass
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium”
(Titanium – David Guetta)

Hi there! Well, it’s about freaking time I wrote something, so here it goes…

Today’s song will be St. John by We Are The Fallen. The song was published in 2010 on the album Tear The World Down.
Here’s the lyrics, and video below:

This is a really dark song, with some even darker lyrics. St. John is actually a mental hospital, so thereof the lyrics “When did this asylum become where I sleep”.  It rocks, with brilliant riffs and hard playing all the way through, and it haunts you. You can really feel it with the piano in the intro, followed by a few chugs from heavy guitars, and even Carly’s voice sounds haunting.
Not much more to say, just listen and enjoy.

“My whole world’s forsaken
Won’t let you destroy my faith again”
(St. John – We Are The Fallen)
